The next fitness obsession packs a punch
Shadowbox is a boutique gym that hopes to revolutionize boxing like fitness company SoulCycle reinvented indoor cycling. The gym is situated at 28 West 20th St. in New York City’s fashionable Flatiron District; a second location is due to open in DUMBO, Brooklyn, in summer 2016. Shadowbox’s 45-minute classes, which cost $34, fuse traditional boxing techniques with interval training and body-weight exercises. Professional instructors incorporate punch combos and fast-paced shadowboxing styles with the sounds of high energy, pulse-raising beats in a contemporary, inside space. The soundproofed studio, with its 40 custom-built boxing bags and dimmed lighting, has an impact-absorbing floor that helps to prevent injuries. Instead of membership fees, Shadowbox has a flexible pay-as-you-go pricing structure that packs a punch. Guests can book a group class or private training session online and visitors can bring their own gloves or rent them for one dollar. Book a class on the Shadowbox website or check out the gym’s Instagram page.
