Sahadi’s
Sahadi’s is practically a landmark in Brooklyn Heights. With their specialty products, Middle Eastern prepared foods, and oilve and grain bazaar, this store is on my weekly shopping run. I love it. – Stevie Benanty

Situated on the stretch of Atlantic Avenue that intersects Brooklyn Heights—a Brooklyn residential neighborhood known for its Gothic Revival architecture, tree-lined streets and townhouses—Sahadi’s market sells exotic specialty foods. With its narrow aisles, cheese counters and coffee bean barrels, the grocery market resembles a Middle Eastern souq, attracting locals who seek imported grains, olives, and nuts of all kinds. Visitors take a ticket when they walk in and when their number is called, a staff member personally walks around the man-made souq, bagging up dried fruit, nut butters, and candied fruit. You can also go to their prepared foods counter for the best hummus and baba ganoush in town, and homemade pies of all kinds (chicken, meat, spinach, cheese….the list goes on). Don’t forget a falafel sandwich, too! A Brooklyn mainstay for more than 65 years, the bazaar entices shoppers who desire international ingredients and flavors that they can’t get anywhere else. Visitors not in Brooklyn can shop for specialty foods on Sahadi’s online store or visit Instagram to see photos of the indoor market.
