Peponi Hotel is a quaint, family-owned establishment located on the island of Lamu off the coast of Kenya in the glimmering Indian Ocean. Lamu town is one of the oldest living towns in East Africa, as well as one of the original Swahili settlements, and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is a sea of white houses in a series of labyrinthine streets that are bursting with life.
The decor of Peponi Hotel is simple yet elegant, and each one of the 28 rooms has an ocean view and outdoor space. On the grounds of the hotel is a wide selection of restaurants, ranging from fresh fish and sushi to traditional Swahili cooking to innovative breakfast. There is also a gorgeous garden with a pool.
Lamu is very hot and humid, especially from January-March. July-September tends to be cool and dry, so are therefore the perfect months to pay Lamu a visit. There are a great many activities to occupy your time on the island, such as fishing, snorkeling, dhow trips and other water sports. To get to Lamu, you can fly right to the airport on the island, which you can easily get a connection to through Nairobi or Mombasa.
