June Wine Bar
What is your favorite restaurant to eat at? This answer could change weekly or monthly. I recently had an excellent meal at June Wine Bar on Court Street in Brooklyn. Their small plates are incredibly original and tasty. – Sean Mangan
With its mahogany sofas and gleaming marble bar which spans the entire room, June blends uber-contemporary, Parisian-style decor and light bites in Brooklyn’s historical core. The Cobble Hill bistro, positioned on a stretch of Court Street known for its Italian meat markets and fashion boutiques, draws Brooklynites who come here for great cocktails and great bites: cocktails include “Never Been to Spain”—an amalgamation of brandy, lemon and roselle syrup ($12)—and “Moonage Daydream,” a scotch, white tea and yuzu juice mixture ($13). The restaurant also serves a slew of European wines. Bar snacks include snap peas with spring onion, saffron butter and horseradish ($7); white grapefruit served with walnut, yogurt and black radish ($9); and a wedge of bread with a creamy ricotta dip ($9). Grab your food and sit outside in the backyard patio—perfect for the hot summer months in New York. June was created by Henry Rich—owner of Rucola, a northern Italian eatery in nearby Boerum Hill—and chef Tom Kearney from The Farm on Adderley, a Brooklyn farm-to-table restaurant.
