    Beginner’s Guide to Crystals

    Guide courtesy of Alex Myerson.

Celebrities are praising them, Urban Outfitters is selling them, and recently the health-conscious set has ditched coconut water and alkaline H2O for crystal-infused hydration.

But crystals are more than earthy decorations for your coffee table. They’re conduits of energy most commonly used for their healing properties, from clearing blockages to attracting love. The energy put into them is what makes them powerful—the more you put in, the more you’ll get out.

Different crystals have distinct functions—some ward off negativity while others improve luck—and it can be difficult to figure out what’s right for you, so we’ve crafted a list of the ones most commonly used to get you started.

Once you’ve found “the one,” make sure to set your intention to it—sit with it, close your eyes, and imagine what you want to get out of it. Carry it with you or set it next to your pillow, just make sure to keep it close, especially when you need it most, and you’ll feel cosmically charged in no time.

    Where to find Crystals:
    In New York City:

Not only are the associates helpful and well informed, but the crystals are also neatly organized with their specific healing properties written beside them, making this my favorite shop on the list.

Crystal Garden JewelsThis shop has it all, whether you’re looking for crystals, air-cleansing plants, prayer beads, or dream catchers. Don’t be surprised to find some phallic-looking items either—it’s all in good fun (and spirit)!
    Address: 247 East 10th St.

Magic JewelryThe staff here is extremely knowledgeable about their array of vibrant crystals, but the best part about Magic Jewelry is even more colorful: they can photograph your aura and give you an in-depth reading about what it means for your past, present, and future.
